Living Room Reflection

The balcony of my apartment is separated from the living room by a glass door.  Normally I don't pay it much attention, but one night recently, I happened to catch a glimpse of the living room reflected in the glass, and found it captivating.  The reflected living room seemed more cozy, more intimate, more lonely, and more mysterious all at the same time.  Certainly, the feel was all just a reflection of my own state of mind, but as I told someone recently, inside of my head is where I happen to live.

Reflection On An Empty Shop Window

looks like a rabbit hole I could jump into.

Long ago, when I was still a child in Seoul before moving to the U.S., I watched this animated cartoon on TV that had to do with characters jumping into a shallow puddle on the ground.  If they got it timed just right, instead of landing on wet pavement they would fall through an interdimensional tunnel and end up in a whole other world in a parallel universe.  How I longed for a chance to partake in that adventure!

Somewhat Surprising

It was early afternoon on a clear Wednesday. I was strolling down a neighborhood sidewalk in the sunshine, relaxed and with not a care in the world, when suddenly something caught my eye -- a bright flash of light at the edge of vision, that quickly streaked across a road sign and disappeared.  I looked about, looking for the source, but didn't see any likely candidate.  So I was about to resume my walk when I saw it again, very clearly this time because I was looking right at the sign; and not only that, it seemed timed to match my movement.  Intrigued, I cautiously moved forward again -- and yes, there it was.  This time it stayed on the road sign long enough that I could tell it was mimicking my movement.

That's when I realized it was sunlight reflecting off the "steampunk" goggles on my hat!  I turned my head slowly back and forth, and sure enough, it followed my movements.  I was a little amazed that the spot of reflected light was so concentrated and clear-edged, with no dispersal to speak of, just like when I used to play with a hand mirror and sunlight as a child.  To look at the (cheap)goggles casually, you wouldn't necessarily think the lenses would be this effective as reflectors.

As for why there was only one reflection instead of two, the only possible explanation I can come up with is that perhaps it was due to the slight divergence of angle between the two lenses, magnified by the distance.  You know, like how a Venus probe going just a few degrees off orbit early on could necessitate a course correction of tens of thousands of miles later on.

More Spontaneous Order To Fill The OCD Man's Universe

I was just walking along, down a neighborhood alley I'd traversed before, when I noticed this unusual reflection that just happened to neatly "string the pearl" with that hole in the wall (hah, for once the expression is meant literally).  If I had come along just a little earlier or later it would have "missed the target".  I couldn't see what was reflecting the afternoon sun so fortuitously, as the source was beyond a wall.

Seen On The Drive Home Yesterevening

YET ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE VAGUELY SINISTER IMAGES

At first, it was just an interesting reflection on some windows on a building I passed.

Until I took a closer look, and saw a pair of big staring eyes.

A person with paranoid tendencies might well conclude that he was being watched.

Second Story Windows

Reflections in the upper level windows of the building where I work. Me stumbling around the parking lot with my camera stuck to my face.
