Go For It, Big Guy!
A whale hunting a shrimp.
Which reminds me of the old Korean adage, "When whales fight, the shrimp's back breaks", a self-deprecating reference to the fact that little Korea has for so long has had to bear the brunt of the fallout from the conflicts involving its much bigger neighbors, China, Russia and Japan.

How Unusual
is this! I've never seen anything like it before. Even for most other cloud watchers I daresay this has to be pretty much a once-in-a-lifetime sighting.

Nature Imitating Art
So I finally went to see The Odyssey today. I have to say its portrayal of Polyphemos the Cyclops was the most grotesque and pervy-looking version I've ever seen, totally unlike the poignant, 'pathetically endearing depiction' in the painting by Odilon Redon. I had gone in feeling ambivalent about the movie because of all the negative publicity that had preceded its release, but I was actually pleasantly surprised by how comfortable I was with all the "inaccuracies" that were the cause of so much fuss.
Anyway, this post isn't about that. When I came out of the cinema it was evening, the Sun was setting and everything was enveloped in the nostalgic gold-and-violet twilight that I find so lovely and comforting. Then I looked up, and saw this:
and I was instantly reminded of the famous print by Hokusai, The Great Wave;

Another Instance Of
"uncanny" (to me anyway) resemblance. This out-of-nowhere cloud mass so reminded me of Polyphemos the Cyclops in 'this' painting by Odilon Redon.

Light And Dark Kissing
This actually reminded me of the upside-down kiss scene between Toby Maguire and Kirsten Dunst in the original Spider-Man movie.

Amazingly Vivid Cloud At Sunset
Cloud Watch III
It was curiously reminiscent of a recumbent figure at the beginning (when I first noticed it, that is), until the "head" decided to float off by itself, then melt away...

Irasshaimase!
I was reminded of Japanese touts in Kabukicho dragging tourists in as they yell "Welcome to our establishment! This way, please!"

Cloud Watch II
It's moonsoon season, but there's been very little rain here in the northern part of the country, at least thus far. I understand some parts of the south have been inundated, but for whatever reason the rainclouds refuse to move north. Every day the weather forecast predicts rain, but then later it gets pushed back a day. It's like the punishment the Greek gods subjected Tantalus to, the torment of having relief just within your grasp, only to see it withdrawn at the last moment.

Cloud Watch
I was just walking along when I saw this:
I had a "feeling", so I kept a watch on it, and I was not disappointed.
