Two Very Different Sky Photos

taken today.  Well, it's past midnight now, so technically it's yesterday.

#1. Taken earlier in the evening -- what a show!  Looks like fireworks going off, no?

#2. Then, a little later, a diametrically opposed image -- cool and serene, the object of my unrequited love, Selene, in the waxing phase:

Li Bai, the Chinese poet, loved the Moon, and he loved the drink.  On the last night of his life he was out boating on a lake while drunk, and he drowned trying to embrace the reflected Moon in the water.  I fear/love the possibility of my meeting an analogous fate.

Drama Queen

This evening's sunset.

Boy, I sure do love me some apocalyptic-style imagery^

A Cloud Comes Back

After fourteen years!  This is the cloud, photographed as a baby back in 2012:

Check out that cute baby pot belly!

And now it's back, all grown up and filled out now, looking like a real tough guy.  Time really passes like a fast-flowing river, doesn't it -- where did that adorable little baby cloud go!

A Cloud Stretching

When I first sighted it, it was like a down feather from an angel's wing (I know, schmaltzy), but it grew from down to plume to flight feather and eventually to pheasant tail over some ten minutes.  There is a bit of a jump between the second and third images because as I followed the movement of the cloud, at one point I had to wait at a street crossing for the notoriously long Korean traffic signals to change and there was a tree blocking the view while I waited.  And after the last photo it became too attenuated to be of further interest.

13,591 Steps In Seoul

Some random shots taken while perambulating around GwangHwaMun Square this afternoon and evening, plus one on the way home.

Tantalizingly Suggestive

Organs, bird, cartoon head, mutant doll, hadrosaur, body parts, shape-shifting monster caught mid-transformation.  All very close, without quite getting there maybe...  But isn't that the point?

A Winter Day's Iridescence

Is it just my overactive imagination, or does that little cloudlet kind of look like frost on a windowpane?

Apocalyptic Skies

I seem to be on a bit of a "hellfire" jag lately.  It's probably not healthy...

Looming II

I stood on a street corner for some minutes watching this cloud growing and advancing over the building, as if to overwhelm it by its sheer presence.  It was fascinating, and at the same time, a little ominous.  I took a shot every minute or so to keep track of its progress, but then this street proselytizer lady came up, handed me a leaflet (with a piece of candy attached, and bearing this passage from Matthew 11:28 -- "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest")

and tried to engage me in conversation.  I responded mostly out of politeness, but the distraction caused me to momentarily forget to photograph the cloud -- which is why there is a bit of a "jump" between photos 4 and 5.

The Dragon's Return

I took this quick shot of a moderately interesting, but otherwise fairly unremarkable, cloud while out walking.  I didn't think much of it then.

However, upon taking another look later at home, I thought I noticed something, a tinge of familiarity(?);  so I gave the image a quarter turn, sharpened it up a bit, heightened contrast... and yes, my hunch proved correct;  it's another dragon, a dragon of bones only -- unlike my other, "normal" dragon Dracovolans australocaliforniensis maximus -- falling down from the sky!

But a Dragon falling out of Heaven... isn't that Lucifer?
