A Puffball's Bones

An X-ray image of a dandelion puffball reveals its skeletal structure, which ominously resembles a crazy staring eyeball.

Or perhaps the image of Polyphemos the Cyclops in this famous painting by Odilon Redon.

Stone Eye

Whether it's natural, or someone was inspired by the shape of the breakage in the stone to fill in the iris/pupil, it was startling in any case.

Makes one think of the animistic belief about spirits residing in everything in nature.

Maybe this sounds like something a fan of those old kitchy Hammer Horror movies might say (I confess I am one), but surely this is Baphomet, the horned goat-deity of old, come to unholy life and staring out of the hellfire to which it had been consigned!  Burning in the deepest pit of Hades, and over it a dragon biting its horn -- perhaps Satan himself..?

*OR PERHAPS IT'S ONE OF THE DJINN, CREATED OUT OF FIRE AND SMOKE -- BUT ON THE OTHER HAND, IS THERE REALLY A DIFFERENCE?
