THE SUBJECT OF "THE OBJECT"

My creative writing teacher once said that in writing fiction 'what' you say is not as important as 'how' you say it.  I believe the same rule applies in visual arts as well.  Grand topics and universal themes are great, they have their roles, but one of my favorite things to do is to take humble, common things in everyday life - little trivialities noticed by no one else but me - and modify or present them in ways that imbue them with special significance - or "dignity", as I call it.

Dark Wings Over Seoul

In one of the chapters of 'Man and His Symbols', a collection of Jungian essays, reference is made to a woman who dreamt that she was standing on a hill overlooking Jerusalem, when suddenly the wing of Satan darkens the sky.  That's what I thought of, when I saw this cloud.

Once I was actually asked why I don't make more happy faces.  And someone else asked me why there are so few female faces.  I hadn't noticed.

Dreaming Lucid

It occurs to me that I've caught quite a few UFOs on camera over the years.  Are there many people who have had multiple encounters like me?  Perhaps I've been a member of an exclusive club all this time without realizing it..?!

I think they're both pretty good, if I do say so myself.
