A Blood Dream

This morning I woke up unusually early.  I didn't feel like I needed any more sleep, so I got up, made tea, and sat down in front of the computer as usual.  But then, after a while I decided I needed to go back to sleep after all, so I got back into bed and fell asleep.

During that extra couple of hours I had a dream about my cat Blood.  Yes, after all these years I still dream about my one and only pet now and then.  In the dream I had given him away to someone else some time before, but I'd come to their home for a visit.  Blood was glad to see me, and when time came for me to leave he followed me to the front door, seemingly ready to come back with me.  I had to lead him back into the house and close the door behind me.  It made me sad.

Once I woke, I noticed two things about the dream.  In the dream Blood had orange stripes, rather than tabby markings.  Also, his being dead was symbolized as "being away" -- he was out of my life and I couldn't have him with me any more.  This was similar to how my mother's passing was symbolically represented in a prior dream as her "going away".

Blood Comes Back For A Visit

This morning I dreamt of picking up a big, plump tabby cat and hugging him to my face. He responded with a long solemn kiss on my mouth.

Funny that I didn't think of it in the dream, but once I woke up I realized that cat looked a lot like Blood (Sept. 11th and 12th entries). Maybe his ghost really did come back to see me.

EDIT: OMG! I just realized it's Halloween! Now I KNOW it was the ghost of Blood, allowed for one day to walk the earth among the living -- and he chose to come to me.

Thank you, Blood -- I love you, too.

"Looming"

Almost exactly two years ago (actually, it really is exactly two years in number of days;  it's two years minus 1 day only if you go by the date -- what a coincidence!) I posted a photo of a cloud to this blog and called it "Anxiety".  I also posted it on Facebook, and somebody suggested "Looming" as an alternative title.  I did not feel it was a great fit, and my title stayed.  Today I saw a cloud that could be Anxiety's kissing cousin, except for being less "anxious".  So here it is, "Looming" over that apartment complex.

And thanks for the suggestion, whoever you were.

A Truly Weird Coincidence

It's the Fourth of July!  I was going out when I spotted this stinkbug next to the elevator.  I looked at it close, and realized it was missing most of its right antenna.

Which reminded me of this stag beetle from EXACTLY two years ago, July 4, 2023.  This guy was missing his right antenna.

And while looking up the post, I realized that EXACTLY one year later, on July 4, 2024, while touring JinGwanSa temple I came upon this beetle clinging to a lotus blossom.  And it was missing its right antenna, too!  Is the cosmos trying to send me some kind of message?  Spooky.
